Personal injury refers to any physical and/or psychological harm resulting from an accident or incident whereby another party may be legally at fault. Within the context of our psychological assessments, this typically involves evaluating clients who have experienced road traffic collisions, workplace accidents, assaults or traumatic events and accidents in public or private spaces.
As part of our psychological assessment service, we assess the nature and impact of any claimed injuries, particularly when there may be ongoing cognitive or psychological consequences.
These assessments are often instructed by Solicitors, Insurers or Medical Experts to help determine the extent and impact of the injury on the individual's day-to-day functioning.
Medical Negligence (also known as Clinical Negligence) occurs when healthcare professionals or an organisation provide care that falls below the accepted clinical standards, resulting in avoidable harm. In relation to the services we offer, Clinical Negligence cases may involve individuals who have experienced a misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis, inappropriate or harmful treatment, surgical or procedural errors, negligent post-operative or follow-up care, birth injuries and failure to recognise or act on clinical red flags.
Our role is to provide independent clinical assessments to understand the psychological, cognitive, functional and/or emotional effects of the alleged negligence.
This may include assessing the mental health impact of trauma, grief, chronic pain or loss of function and evaluating any cognitive impairments caused by delayed treatment. We may also analyse the difference between the client’s current condition versus what would likely have been expected, had the appropriate care been given. This assists with the production of a clear, evidence-based report to support Medico-Legal Proceedings.
Psychological assessments serve as a bridge between the medical and legal aspects of Personal Injury and Medical Negligence cases. They help to assess the mental trauma and/or cognitive impairments that an individual may have suffered.
